Announcement RE: Extra Qualifying Spots at Zones
October 27, 2024
Another exciting addition to the WODA Zone Shoots. A total of sixteen (8 men and 8 ladies) qualifier spots will be added to the total provincial qualifiers each season. These spots will be added to the specific zones that correspond to each of the sixteen (16) WODA provincial Team members from the previous year that they played in.
Example: A male player from Zone 6 made Team WODA last year – an additional qualifier spot will be added in the current season to the total number of male qualifiers in Zone 6 (the top 50% of male singles players plus one (1) more).
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to anyone on the WODA Executive or your Zone Directors.
Announcement RE: Provincials – Youth and Adult
October 2, 2024
Today we are coming to you with our plan for at least the next three years of our WODA Adult Provincial Championships.
At the 2024 WODA Adult Provincial Championships we debuted a new provincial format for the adult event. Coming away from the event we were pleased and encouraged with the comments, feedback, and enthusiasm our members showed in participating in the new format. We listened to member feedback, and are working to integrate some enhancements for future provincial championships.
At the AGM, we also presented the membership with our intention to move back to St. Catharines for provincials in the future, and that this change could include a change back to Easter weekend. This idea was met with broad approval at the AGM.
So, today we are announcing that the Adult Provincial Championships for 2025 will take place in St. Catharines, Ontario. We are also announcing that the event will take place over 3 days: April 18-20, 2025, which is the 2025 Easter weekend.
As we were in need of finding a venue for 2025, having the tournament on Easter weekend allows us to negotiate with factors very much in our favour. For an organization that is starting up, taking advantage of all cost saving measures that we can, we feel is the responsible thing to do for our members who support the program. It is our goal to get the most value out of our program as possible, and this move allows us an opportunity to be able to comfortably provide for our members in the near term, while also giving us the opportunity to start to plan for future improvements, rather than getting by on the status quo year after year as costs continue to rise.
Finally, with the move back to a holiday weekend, we are taking the opportunity to expand the provincial championships, offering more darts for everyone! Our 2024 provincial championships was played over two days, with players accruing points based on their finish each day. In 2025, we will be expanding this to three tournaments over three days. This adjustment to the format will give a decent approximation to the players of the setting of the NDFC National Championships, where Team WODA will compete over four days, with three main tournaments on consecutive days. Mixed doubles will also still take place at provincials like last year, over two days, and we are looking forward to another season of watching our talented mixed doubles teams play for some of the biggest cash prizes in Canada!
One final announcement. As we will be staying at the Holiday Inn & Suites in St. Catharines, the room rate that we will have for the 2025 Provincial Championships will be $154.00/night (rate is for double occupancy) plus applicable taxes.
We are happy to have the opportunity to provide our players with meaningful darts over all three days of the provincial championship weekend. We feel there is no room in Canada that is as talented as our provincial championship field. THIS is the place where we want to see everyone put their skills to the test, and advance their game! We want to see YOU there testing your skills amongst the best in our province!
We hope to see you in St. Catharines April 18-20, 2025 at the WODA Adult Provincial Championships!
